During the closure of the school due to Covid-19 we provided resources to support parents with their children’s learning at home. In the event of further closures, or periods of individual or bubble self isolation, we are mainly using Google Classroom and Google Sites for those children unable to attend school, in conjunction with other platforms such as Purple Mash and emails with work where appropriate.
Google Sites and Google Classroom (R-Y4)
Each week teachers will post slides used in school on the class Google Site or Google Classroom. Years 1 and 2 will have 3 hours of directed learning a day, and Year 3 and 4 will have 4 hours of directed learning.
Instructions for using Google Classroom can be accessed through the Instructions tab.
In the event of whole school/class closure:
There will be timed sessions in the week when children can contact their teachers.
Google Meet may be used for classes to meet online with their teachers.
Teachers will give children details about Meets and their work on the class Google Site or Google Classroom.
All children have been given a reminder of their Google Classroom login.
Google Meet does not work on Safari browser. Mobile devices need an app.
In the event of closure, Nursery parents will be emailed weekly activities as they were in the early 2020 Lockdown.
Google Classroom for Assemblies
In the event of whole school closure, virtual assemblies will be posted in the Classroom on Google Classroom.
Other WLS logins
As part of maths provision at WLS, pupils in Years 2-4 have logins for TimesTables Rockstars, and children also have logins for Purple Mash, both of which are accessible from home at all times.
In the event of whole or partial closure, there are many websites providing a wealth of resources for home learning including the government website (Oak Academy) and BBC Bitesize. We have listed some of these on the Further Resources document for you to look at as required. This can be accessed by the Further Resources tab. While it is valuable to have so many resources available, seeing so many can be daunting. They are there so you can select ideas and support for learning you are doing at home, and can be fitted in between equally important fresh air, exercise and downtime. The teachers will, at times direct pupils to certain ones.
Keeping you informed
We will keep you informed regularly of provision for home learning via Parent Mail.
We will use the results of the parent questionnaire about access to online learning to offer school laptops to those that need it.
We will notify parents of how we will provide provision for SEND pupils who are not in school. This may be through online Google Meets to do 1:! and small group intervention.
Contact us for help
